Keep the Foil On for 2 Days Maximum: After your tattoo session, I’ll cover it with sterile foil to protect it. It’s essential to leave this foil in place for no more than 48 hours to allow your skin to heal and prevent any potential infections.
Gently Wash with Warm Water and Antibacterial Soap: After removing the foil, wash your tattoo gently with warm water and a fragrance-free, antibacterial soap. Use your clean hands to lather the soap and apply it to the tattoo. Rinse thoroughly with warm water and pat dry with a clean, disposable paper towel.
Apply a Thin Layer of Tattoo Ointment: Following the initial cleaning, apply a very thin layer of a specialized tattoo ointment that I recommend. Make sure not to over-apply, as a little goes a long way. This ointment helps keep the tattoo moisturized and promotes healing.
Keep it Moisturized: Over the next several days, keep your tattoo lightly moisturized with the same recommended ointment to prevent excessive dryness and itching. Apply it sparingly, as overuse can hinder the healing process.
Avoid Sun Exposure: While your tattoo is healing, protect it from direct sunlight and tanning beds. UV exposure can cause fading and damage the tattoo. You may want to cover it with clothing or use a high-SPF, broad-spectrum sunscreen if it’s in an exposed area.
Resist Picking or Scratching: As your tattoo heals, it’s natural for it to scab and itch. However, refrain from scratching or picking at it, as this can damage the ink and potentially lead to infection.
No Soaking: During the healing process, avoid submerging your tattoo in water, especially in pools, hot tubs, or baths. Quick showers are fine, but don’t let the tattoo soak.
Wear Loose Clothing: If your tattoo is in an area covered by clothing, choose loose, breathable fabrics to minimize friction and irritation.
